Bakersfield's Brian Foley won the high overall championship at the Desatoff-Pacific Sporting Arms Open at the Kern County Gun Club May 15-17. Foley, who is a high school senior headed to Lindenwood University in the fall, outlasted Larry Sifers in a shootoff after they both posted 399s. Dan Jones was 3rd with a 398 and three shooters posted 397s: John Nugent, Richard Fukatsu and Mike Power. The tournament drew about 110 shooters under near perfect conditions at the club, even if the temperature did soar to around 105 on the final day Sunday. (click on headline to read full story) Hats off to skeet chairman Jack McGee for putting on another quality show for skeet devotees. The club looked tremendous and everyone was remarking on how quickly the new trees were growing on the skeet fields. Hal Stewart, still recovering from shoulder surgery, helped Jack and Ginny Fazer, Lee Dennis, Bobby Williams, Lori Desatoff and Peggy Eckman to keep things running. The ammo pouches, gun sleeves and HOA buckles were well received bonuses to a long weekend of shooting in the heat. Clifford Bolt was in charge of the pullers and assembled a top notch group for this tournament, including the usual contingent of "pros" from Stockton. Complete results for not only HOA but for all gauges and doubles are posted under "shoot results" in the yellow toolbar.
